👋 Introduce yourself, including your name, subject, and grade level.

My name is Tammy Lujan, and I teach 4th grade Texas History and 5th grade American History.

📚 What aspect of Social Studies do you find most fascinating and enjoy teaching the most, and why?

I find it fascinating that we can bring history back to life and truly relive it in the classroom. I want my students to feel proud of their country and their state. Teaching the Declaration of Independence is my favorite because it introduces students to powerful ideas about equality and the pursuit of happiness, helping them understand the values our country was built on.

🎉 Share a success story or memorable moment made possible by Exploros.

This is our first year using Exploros, and we have already seen a noticeable increase in student curiosity and engagement. Students are often motivated to continue researching topics at home and come back ready to share what they learned. As a team, we’ve also seen strong growth in student data since implementing the curriculum.

💻 How has technology, particularly Exploros, empowered you as a teacher, helping you achieve your goals and enhance student outcomes?

Exploros gives us access to meaningful resources and real-time data, which helps us better understand how students are progressing. The lessons are well-structured and support our pacing, making it easier to stay on track. Students also enjoy how easy the platform is to use, which keeps them focused on the learning.

🚀 What's one effective teaching strategy or tip for boosting confidence and student engagement in Social Studies?

One strategy that has made a big impact is using a “student-as-teacher” approach. Students take turns leading the class by selecting readers, guiding discussions, and initiating “turn and talks.” This builds their confidence, strengthens critical thinking, and encourages deeper, student-led conversations while I support and monitor their progress.

Spotlight on Kade Goodwin: Bringing the Constitution to Life with Exploros

Build a strong foundation in constitutional principles, civic understanding, and historical thinking skills.

Blog

sabrina.valverde

Kade Goodwin teaches 8th grade U.S. History at Liberty Middle School in Liberty, Texas, where he focuses on helping students build a strong foundation in constitutional principles, civic understanding, and historical thinking skills.
In this Educator Spotlight, we chat with Kade about his passion for teaching the Constitution, how Exploros supports deeper understanding, and a practical strategy he uses to make history relevant and engaging.

👋 Introduce yourself, including your name, subject, and grade level.

My name is Kade Goodwin, and I am an 8th grade U.S. History teacher at Liberty Middle School in Liberty, Texas. I graduated from Sam Houston State University, and this is my second year teaching. I teach U.S. History from colonization through Reconstruction, with a strong focus on constitutional principles, civic understanding, and historical thinking skills aligned to the TEKS and STAAR expectations.

📚 What aspect of Social Studies do you find most fascinating and enjoy teaching the most, and why?

My favorite aspect of teaching Social Studies is the U.S. Constitution. I enjoy helping students understand how the Constitution establishes the structure of government and protects individual rights. When students learn how principles like checks and balances, federalism, and limited government apply to real situations and Supreme Court cases, they gain a clearer understanding of how the Constitution continues to guide our system of government today.

🎉 Share a success story or memorable moment made possible by Exploros.

One success story made possible by Exploros occurred during a lesson on the checks and balances system. Students analyzed scenarios where one branch of government acted beyond its authority and used Exploros prompts to explain which branch could respond and how. Many students who typically struggle with abstract concepts were able to clearly explain constitutional processes in their own words. Their written responses showed noticeable growth in both confidence and understanding.

💻 How has technology, particularly Exploros, empowered you as a teacher, helping you achieve your goals and enhance student outcomes?

Exploros allows me to move away from lecture-based instruction and toward student-centered learning. The platform supports primary source analysis, guided questioning, and real-time feedback, which helps students practice STAAR-style thinking while staying engaged. It also gives me immediate insight into student understanding so I can adjust instruction as needed.

🚀 What's one effective teaching strategy or tip for boosting confidence and student engagement in Social Studies?

One effective strategy is using real-world connections and modern parallels. When students can connect historical concepts, like constitutional rights or limits on government power, to current events or situations they recognize, they become more engaged and confident in their understanding. Making history relevant helps students see its value beyond the classroom.

Happy New Year from Exploros 🎉

As we begin 2026, we’re excited to celebrate a major milestone: Exploros is entering our 10th year of supporting Texas Social Studies teachers.

Blog

sabrina.valverde

Celebrating 10 Years of Supporting Texas Social Studies Teachers

🚀 What's one effective teaching strategy or tip for boosting confidence and student engagement in Social Studies?

My teaching tips is that I like keeping the individual screens locked. Originally from Tennessee, Lori has fallen in love with Texas history—and her excitement is contagious in the classroom. After being introduced to Exploros at a conference, she took the initiative to apply for a grant that would allow her students continued access to the platform, enhancing their learning experiences through collaborative and tech-integrated lessons.

In this Educator Spotlight, we chat with Lori about her favorite parts of teaching Texas history, how Exploros helps spark meaningful classroom discussions, and her tips for boosting confidence and engagement in young learners.

👋 Introduce yourself, including your name, subject, and grade level. We would love to hear more about your award and the grant you received!
My name is Lori Sixtos. I teach 4th grade Social Studies and Science. I was introduced to Exploros at a conference and fell in love with it! I was fortunate to use it for a couple of months, but that time was soon going to end.

My district offers teachers the chance to apply for a grant called the Foundation for Excellence Grant (FFE). After receiving a quote from Exploros, I applied—and in April, I was awarded the grant! It covered the program for the remainder of the current school year and all the way through next year.

📚 What aspect of Social Studies do you find most fascinating and enjoy teaching the most, and why?

I teach Texas History. I'm originally from Tennessee, so I knew nothing about Texas history before teaching it. But I absolutely love telling the story of how Texas came to be.

My favorite part to teach is the Texas Revolution. It’s an incredible chapter because it shows what people will do for something they truly believe in—even if it meant death. The men who fought and died for our great state of Texas are true heroes.

🎉 Share a success story or memorable moment made possible by Exploros.
When I first started using Exploros, we did the lessons as a whole group. Students are able to see what others are writing in real time. On one particular topic, students started asking each other about their answers. That encouraged an amazing group discussion!

Even though Exploros is an online platform, it still gave us the space to debate and talk through different answers and thought processes. It was awesome to see that kind of critical thinking and engagement happening in a digital environment.

💻 How has technology, particularly Exploros, empowered you as a teacher, helping you achieve your goals and enhance student outcomes?
Exploros offers a variety of ways for students to respond to questions. They’re able to write and even do some research on topics, which helps them practice and improve their writing—especially since their STAAR test and other assessments require them to write short-constructed responses or paragraphs.

It’s a great way to combine content learning with skill building.

🚀 What's one effective teaching strategy or tip for boosting confidence and student engagement in Social Studies?
Let students know it’s okay to be wrong—and make it fun!

When we’re in whole group and I call on students, sometimes they give me a wrong answer. I’ll use a “no” button or something silly and fun to let them know it’s not correct. They love it! It encourages all my students to participate, and they don’t worry about whether their answer is right or wrong.

Exploros Renews SOC 2 Type II Certification: Reinforcing Our Commitment to Security and Trust

Exploros Renews SOC 2 Type II Certification: Reinforcing Our Commitment to Security and Trust

Blog

sabrina.valverde

At Exploros, we know that schools, educators, districts, and our publishing partners are placing their trust in us every single day—not only to support teaching and learning, but to do it safely and securely. This past year, we had the privilege of attending and sponsoring several impactful conferences:

These events provided invaluable opportunities to connect with educators, share best practices, and highlight how our innovative social studies approach is making an impact. We are proud to share that this year, teachers and students generated over 32 million responses using our platform—giving every student a voice in the classroom.

We also had the privilege of participating in a six-month workshop conducted in collaboration with the American Institutes for Research® (AIR) and several educational publishers. Her integration of Exploros technology into the classroom has allowed her to create an engaging, interactive learning environment that especially supports her English Language Learners.

Q1: 🌟 Please introduce yourself, including your name, the subject you teach, and the grade level of your students.

My name is Perla Rodriguez and I teach 4th grade ELAR and Social Studies.

Q2: 🌐 What aspect of Social Studies do you find most fascinating and enjoy teaching the most, and why?

As a Texas History teacher, I find myself most excited to teach my students human geography and the historical cultures within and beyond the state.

Q3: 🎉 Share a success story or memorable moment made possible by Exploros.

I remember once my students were struggling to understand the concept of adaptation during a unit on Native Americans and the environment. They could identify natural resources but struggled to apply prior knowledge of different Texas regions. So, I assigned my tables different Native cultures that lived in different regions to study and then present findings to the class. Because Exploros has a unit for each Texas region and for nomadic and sedentary tribes, my students could use readings, illustrations/photographs, and interactive tools to hone in on their assigned culture. After my students presented to the class, they were able to successfully explain how Natives adapted to their environment!

Q4: 💻 How has technology, particularly Exploros, empowered you as a teacher, helping you achieve your goals and enhance student outcomes?

I believe technology can be very helpful when it comes to providing quick resources to improve comprehension in students, especially ELLs. Exploros provides a lot of visuals and graphic organizers in which students see examples and break down ideas clearly. I also love that students can immediately see each other's responses, as it engages them to start a meaningful discussion and practice their language skills.

Q5: 🚀 What's one effective teaching strategy or tip for boosting confidence and student engagement in Social Studies?

I like starting my lessons with a hook that relates to real life experiences outside the classroom. The students get excited to speak on something they are familiar with, and I can refer back to those ideas throughout my lesson.

Spotlight on Brandon Jones: Inspiring Students with Engaging Social Studies Lessons and Exploros Technology

Brandon Jones, an experienced 8th grade American History teacher at Henderson ISD, has spent the past three years bringing history to life for his students.

Blog

sabrina.valverde

Brandon Jones, an experienced 8th grade American History teacher at Henderson ISD, has spent the past three years bringing history to life for his students.
Q1: 🌟 Please introduce yourself, including your name, the subject you teach, the grade level of your students, and your school.

My name is Brandon Jones, and I have been teaching 8th grade American History for the past three years. Over the years, I've taught just about every social studies class from 8th grade up to Seniors.

Q2: 🌐 Social Studies encompasses a wide range of topics. What aspect of Social Studies do you find most fascinating and enjoy teaching the most, and why?

I honestly love teaching and studying Andrew Jackson. While he may not be the nicest figure in our history, that complexity makes him fascinating! He was shot twice, with one bullet lodged near his heart that could never be removed. Plus, he famously beat up his own assassin and had a giant block of cheese delivered to the White House!

Q3: 🎉 Can you share a specific success story or a memorable moment in your classroom that was made possible by Exploros?

A memorable success was seeing the students learn and grow with Exploros and then apply those skills to their unit tests. We all know that practice makes perfect, and Exploros supports this by providing the structure and content for students to practice key skills before assessments.

Q4: 🚀 What are some key benefits of using technology like Exploros in Social Studies classes?

We live in a tech-driven world, and as educators, we need to adapt. Exploros allows me to offer both guided instruction and independent study on a variety of topics. The platform also provides High-Quality Instructional Materials aligned with TEKS, ensuring the content is grade-level appropriate and rigorous, so I can trust that each lesson is challenging students at the right level.

Q5: 💡 Share a valuable teaching tip for fellow Social Studies educators:

One effective strategy I’ve used is creating a slideshow that mirrors what students see on their screens. This allows me to elaborate on key ideas, and I can also add timers to manage discussion time. Afterward, I review the questions with the class, ensuring that everyone is on the same page.

Kicking Off the 2024-2025 School Year with Exploros: What’s New and What’s Next

We onboarded thousands of teachers this month, with active users in more than 4,000 schools across the U.S.

Blog

main

sabrina.valverde

We hope your 2024-2025 school year is off to a fantastic start!
