Then they research and explain the traditional way that this cattle and other food is prepared and served in Argentina. Finally, they consider the positives and negatives of the isolated way of life of the gaucho. Objectives:
You are probably familiar with the term “barbeque”—it refers to the slow cooking or smoking of meat over wood, charcoal, or flame. Many cultures around the world have different ways of preparing grilled and barbequed meats. In this experience you will learn about the Argentinian tradition of herding cattle and eating it.

Answers will vary. Students may describe the action of the illustration—the cow, the cowboys on the horses, the lassos, and so on. When they have all answered, tell them that this is a classic image of an American cowboy—the kind of image they have probably seen before.
What else do you think of when you hear the word cowboy? In a word or short phrase, share an idea with your classmates. To list more than one, separate them with a comma, like this: Rome, Paris.
As a group, discuss your various responses.
