The Pack contains associated resources for the learning experience, typically in the form of articles and videos. There is a teacher Pack (with only teacher information) and a student Pack (which contains only student information). As a teacher, you can toggle between both to see everything.
Here are the teacher pack items for Life During the Great Depression:
Overview In this experience, students generalize why the American public was eager for superheroes during the Great Depression. Then they learn about life during this era and summarize how the following groups were affected: children, African Americans, and men versus women. Next they analyze the causes of hostility towards and deportation of Mexican Americans and migrants. Finally they choose a cultural work from the Great Depression era and analyze how it expresses life during the economic crisis. The Student Pack includes a link to a documentary, Stories from the Great Depression, which runs 28 minutes. You may suggest that students watch the video outside of class. Objectives
You have learned about the causes of the Great Depression, but what was it like to live through this severe economic crisis? In this lesson you will learn about the ways in which different groups’ lives were affected.
Objectives
Many superhero comics debuted during the Great Depression.
Consider this fact: Many superhero comics—such as Superman and Batman—debuted during the Great Depression. Try to make a generalization why the American public was eager for a hero during this period.
Give students a few minutes to discuss one another’s ideas.
