The Twenties were still roaring, and for many Americans there was an atmosphere of optimism. Then in 1929 an event occurred that contributed to one of the biggest economic crises in U.S. history. In this unit you will learn about the decade known as the Great Depression. In this experience, you will learn some of the vocabulary that will be used in the unit.

These polls provide a general picture of the students’ familiarity with the vocabulary words. If necessary, discuss unfamiliar words with the class.


A long period with very little rain is called a drought. Illustrate the word drought by drawing or uploading a picture that shows the outcome of a drought.
