Many English speakers think that European history is all of world history, but there have been many major empires in the Near East and southern Asia throughout the centuries. Three of the greatest empires—the Ottoman Empire in Turkey, the Safavid Empire in Persia (modern-day Iran), and the Mughal Empire in India—thrived in the early modern period, spreading their cultural influence and political power while Western Europe was still emerging from feudalism. In this lesson you will learn about these three empires.
