Overview

You have already learned about some federal laws and agencies that protect consumers, such as the Food and Drug Administration and the Federal Trade Commission. You have also learned about some of the federal laws that protect workers, such as the Fair Labor Standards Act. In this lesson, you are going to learn about some ways that the federal government protects businesses from unfair competition. You will also learn how the government manages the economy.

  • Describe the role of the Sherman Antitrust Act as a governmental means of increasing competition among businesses.

Students will likely write that the player who owns most of the property will win the game because all the other players will go bankrupt.

Ask students if they can define the word monopoly. They will learn about monopolies in scene 4.
