Overview In this experience, students learn key facts about the Battle of the Alamo. Then they research some of the famous defenders, and examine both historical and legendary stories about them. Finally, they analyze Travis’s letter “To the People of Texas and All Americans in the World.” Students will collaborate in small groups for scene 2 to scene 4. Objectives:
The Battle of the Alamo lasted from February 23 through March 6, 1836. It took place in San Antonio de Béxar, known today as the city of San Antonio. In this experience, you will learn about the battle and the men who gave their lives at the Alamo in the name of Texas independence.

Name a defender of the Alamo. To list more than one name, separate them with a comma, like this: Dwight Eisenhower, Lyndon Johnson. If you don’t know any, write “unknown.” You will be able to name many of them by the end of the experience.
Students will likely recognize the names of Davy Crockett, Jim Bowie, and William Travis, although they may not realize that these three men gave their lives defending the Alamo.
