The Pack contains associated resources for the learning experience, typically in the form of articles and videos. There is a teacher Pack (with only teacher information) and a student Pack (which contains only student information). As a teacher, you can toggle between both to see everything.
Here are the teacher pack items for Southeast Asia: Society and Culture:
In this experience, students begin by learning about some of the most well-known foods in Southeast Asia. Then they use maps to explore the languages and major religions of Southeast Asia. Next, they focus on the region’s cultural diversity. Finally, students choose a food from one country and research its historical, religious, and cultural significance. Objectives:
The culture of food in Southeast Asia reflects the diversity of the entire region. Food from the various parts of Southeast Asia is a favorite for many people around the world. In many cities in America, you will find restaurants that represent the cuisine of these countries.
Objectives:
To get a taste for some of the foods of the region, read
Describe one of the dishes that you have had or would like to try. Explain why it sounds good to you.
Give students time to discuss the food they’ve read about. Some of them will have negative things to say, but encourage them to have an open mind. Invite students to discuss traditional foods in their families and the cultures they represent. Ask students if they are familiar with any Southeast Asian restaurants in your community. If so, create a map that designates the locations of these restaurants.
