Although this experience can stand alone, it works best with the Europe: Geographic Passport experience, which introduces students to the geography of Europe.

Objectives:

  • Identify Europe’s climate and natural resources, including renewable and nonrenewable natural resources.
  • Describe and analyze environmental problems in Europe.

With about fifty countries in Europe, you can assume that there are also many climates and natural resources. In this experience, you will learn about these climates and natural resources, as well as threats to these resources.

Objectives:

  • Identify Europe’s climate and natural resources, including renewable and nonrenewable natural resources.
  • Describe and analyze environmental problems in Europe.

political map of Europe

Europe is made up of about fifty countries. That’s too many countries to remember in your head. But it’s important to know as many as you can—and to have a general sense of where they are located.

To review the countries of Europe, look at the Flags of Europe. Start in study mode to identify as many flags and their countries as possible. Then try practice mode to see how many you can identify on your own.

You may notice some countries that you have never heard of—or whose names you have never heard pronounced.

Write down the name of one of those countries.

Practice saying some of the names of countries that might be a challenge for students to pronounce. Model the pronunciation and ask students to repeat after you. Then ask them to point to the country on the map above.

Countries that might be a pronunciation challenge may include:

  • Luxembourg
  • Portugal
  • Crete
  • Sicily
  • Cyprus
  • Monaco
  • Czech Republic
  • Estonia
  • Lithuania
  • Slovenia
  • Croatia
  • Macedonia
  • Montenegro
