Canada: History and Its Influence

Students do research to explore four important events and eras in twentieth-century American history. Then, they create a timeline and summary of these events. Next, they choose the event or era that they believe is most influential. Finally, they create a quiz for classmates on the content learned in the experience.

This learning experience is designed for device-enabled classrooms. Overview

In this experience, students explore a historical overview of Canada’s First Nations tribes. Then they learn about the many explorers who traveled to—and settled in—what is now Canada. Finally, students explore other important historical events in Canada’s colonization history.

Long before Canada became a country, Indigenous peoples lived throughout the lands that are now Canada. Many distinct First Nations and Inuit communities developed their own languages, governments, traditions, economies, and ways of adapting to different environments.

Beginning in the late 1400s and 1500s, European explorers began arriving in the region. French and English exploration, trade, settlement, and colonization would bring major changes and help shape the history of Canada.

In this experience, you will examine Indigenous life before European colonization and explore how French and British influence contributed to the development of Canada.
